Workplace Health & Safety Officer (Part-Time, Contract)
Location: Nimbin/Lismore – Brisbane, Gold Coast & Scenic Rim Region | Type: Part-Time (Opportunity to move into a fulltime role for the right candidate)
Rutledge Drilling is seeking a proactive and experienced Workplace Health & Safety Officer to support our growing operations across geotechnical and civil projects.
This is a part-time, contract-based position with the opportunity for long-term engagement for the right candidate. The role will focus on maintaining and improving safety systems, supporting site teams, ensuring compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture across all projects.
The position can be Brisbane, Gold Coast, or Scenic Rim based, with regular travel required to the Nimbin area, including staying a couple of nights per week when needed. We are looking for someone who is practical, solutions-focused, and confident working alongside site crews in high-risk construction and geotechnical environments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct regular site visits, inspections, and safety audits.
* Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice, and company policies.
* Assist in the development, review, and implementation of SWMS, JSEAs, and safety documentation.
* Investigate incidents and near misses, preparing reports and corrective action plans.
* Support site supervisors and management in maintaining safe systems of work.
* Coordinate and monitor training, competencies, and safety inductions.
* Lead toolbox talks and promote proactive safety engagement.
* Maintain safety registers, compliance records, and reporting requirements.
* Liaise with clients and principal contractors regarding safety obligations.
* Assist in continuous improvement of company WHS systems.
Minimum Requirements:
* Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or higher).
* Demonstrated experience in construction, civil, drilling, or high-risk industries.
* Strong understanding of Australian WHS legislation.
* Experience conducting audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
* White Card.
* Open Driver's Licence.
* Excellent communication and documentation skills.
* Ability to work independently while supporting site teams.
* Professional, organised, and detail-oriented.
