Kirkman Family Law seeks a motivated and talented law student or PLT student for a volunteer placement opportunity, available part-time (2 days per week, preferably Tues, Thurs and/or Fri) for a minimum of 3 months. Under the guidance of, an Accredited Specialist in Family Law and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, this placement offers an immersive experience in family law, mediation, and legal technology. Candidates will engage in a variety of tasks ranging from legal research and preparation for mediations to administrative support and testing legal technology and artificial intelligence (AI). This placement is designed to fulfill the work experience component of the PLT, providing practical application of legal knowledge, exposure to legal office dynamics, client interactions, and insights into professional legal practice. Despite being an unpaid position, the firm commits to supporting the selected candidate's professional development by covering costs for legal education seminars and networking events as agreed.Applicants should be self-motivated, with strong communication skills and a genuine interest in family law, mediation, and legal technology and AI. Essential qualifications include being in the penultimate or final year of a Bachelor of Laws or PLT program and ideally, you will have a strong interest in family law and proficient technology skills.
