The role of the Clinical Practice Leader within the Youth Detention Centre is unique due to the oversight, supervision, mentoring and professional advice that is required to be provided to a team of Allied Health professionals. The Clinical Practice Leader has oversight of a team that may consist of: Speech and Language Pathologists, Registered Psychologists, Provisional Psychologists and Occupational Therapists.

A strong knowledge of developmental and cognitive assessments would be a necessary asset within this role, as the Clinical Practice Leader needs to ensure that high-quality, professional clinical services are delivered by the team to young people in detention. These services are required to be culturally appropriate and consistent with departmental policies.

As Clinical Practice Leader, You Will Specifically

* Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Supervise a team of allied health professionals within a Youth Detention Centre to ensure the delivery of high-quality youth justice client support services and evidence-based interventions that are culturally appropriate.
* Provide regular supervision and performance development to team members; prioritisation and monitoring of workloads; coordination and/or delivery of training to team members; and quality assurance of work to ensure alignment to legislative requirements, departmental policies, practice standards and procedures.
* Maintain a contemporary professional knowledge of the relevant disciplines of Allied Health professionals within the team and provide advice regarding therapeutic interventions; assessments and report writing; and working within a secure environment; to allied health professionals. In addition, provide advice to detention centre staff about suicide risk management processes and correlating policies and procedures in order to ensure compliance by staff across the centre.
* Ensure that all members of the work team contribute to multi-disciplinary collaboration, planning and review processes with an emphasis on coordinated and integrated service response. This includes development and delivery of Behaviour Support strategies and evidence-based management of young people who present with complex and challenging behaviours.
* Coordinate and deliver the implementation of discipline-specific training provided to detention centre staff to support their work with children and young people who have complex needs, including the topics of Neurodevelopmental Disability, Mental Health, Trauma-Informed Practice, Suicide Risk and Communicating with Young People.
* Provide specialised clinical practice advice and case management advice to internal stakeholders including the department's executive, Youth Justice Service Centres, Regional offices, interagency collaboration panels; and external stakeholders including: Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT), Queensland Ombudsman Inspector of Detention Services, National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), Child Safety, Department of Education, Queensland Health and other agencies regarding the clinical care and management of specific young people.
* Provide specialised advice and consultation, in collaboration with Queensland Health, to detention centre leadership regarding the care and support of young people with diagnosed or undiagnosed disabilities, and/or mental health concerns.
* Participate as a member of the Youth Detention Centre and Client Services management team and contribute to strategic and operational planning; policy development; quality improvement reviews; complex case formulations; key decision-making; and recruitment and retention activities.
* Coordinate statistical performance reporting to identify identifies trends, client service delivery issues, service outcomes and client outcomes, where required.
* Allocate, prioritise and perform tasks in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and human resources and financial and administrative delegations.
