Job Overview
Our client is looking for multiple Software Engineer (Developer) for a contract role with an initial 12‐month engagement and a likely further extensions. Preferably be based in Canberra, ACT to work at the client's office; however hybrid working arrangements will be considered on a case‐by‐case basis for candidates who match the requirements for the role. In this latter case, regular travel to the client office (ACT) will most likely be required, at the candidate's cost.
Essential Qualifications
* All candidates must be an Australian citizen and hold a current Baseline clearance or be able to obtain Baseline clearance.
* All candidates must have the skills and experience listed below.
* Have at least 5+ years relevant local working experience in the field.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Build and maintain secure .NET (8/10) backend services and REST APIs.
* Deliver React frontends that consume APIs and meet accessibility needs.
* Integrate internal and third‐party systems (messaging/event‐driven, identity, CRM) end‐to‐end.
* Apply secure coding/SDLC controls and manage secrets.
* Write automated tests and enforce quality gates in CI/CD.
* Peer review code in DevOps.
* Implement to agreed architecture/standards.
* Produce technical documentation, release notes and operational runbooks.
* Communicate progress, risks, dependencies and options to stakeholders.
* Collaborate with product, UX, security and operations in an agile delivery model.
* Mentor and support team members and promote cross‐skilling.
* Promote a culture of learning, collaboration and continuous improvement.
* Other duties as required.
Essential Criteria
* Tertiary qualifications in software engineering (or equivalent experience) and experience with cloud‐native patterns.
* Technical skills: minimum 10 years designing, building and supporting secure web solutions across backend and frontend.
* Cloud and DevOps: hands‐on Azure delivery/operations and CI/CD.
* API‐led delivery experience, including governance, OpenAPI/Swagger, performance and API security.
* Ways of working and security mindset, familiar with ISM controls and mentoring.
Desirable Criteria
* Test automation and quality engineering in CI/CD.
* Delivery approach: experience delivering in multi‐disciplinary Agile teams.
