The Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service (TALS) is looking for a Senior Lawyer to join its Burnie team in North West Tasmania.
The focus of the role will be to lead the criminal law practice within the region, support the operation & management of the office and provide culturally appropriate legal advice and representation to clients in a broad range of matters.
What we are looking for
* A minimum of 5 years’ experience in criminal practice and procedure, with substantial experience in appearance work in the Magistrates Court. Experience in the Supreme Court is preferred but not essential.
* Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supervising staff, including junior lawyers.
* The ability to work collaboratively with others and foster a positive team environment.
* An understanding of the social issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Tasmania, and a deep appreciation and respect of their cultural needs.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to relate to a wide variety of people.
* Excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills, demonstrating a history of maintaining positive and effective partnerships.

Requirements
The successful candidate will need to undergo a National Police Check and apply for a Working with Vulnerable Persons registration.
