Position Purpose
The Maternity Care Assistant plays a vital support role in delivering holistic, culturally safe maternity care within an Aboriginal Health Service. Under the guidance of the Midwife/Child maternal Nurse, General Practitioner, and The Aboriginal Health Team, the role supports the delivery of antenatal, pregnancy, and postnatal services to Aboriginal community women and their families.
Key Selection Criteria
•A sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture and local Aboriginal communities.
•Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
•Demonstrated ability to provide written reports, file notes and other documents as required.
•Ability to liaise effectively with other organisations.
•Ability to participate in a team environment or work independently and liaise with and support the local Aboriginal community.
•Demonstrated knowledge of the health and issues facing the local Aboriginal Community.
•Demonstrated problem solving skills, excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise.
•Effective people management and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and remain neutral in times of conflict.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable) .
•Valid Driver licence ESSENTIAL
•Possession of a current First Aid Certificate DESIRABLE
•Certificate III Aboriginal Health or equivalent or working towards DESIRABLE
•A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
•A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background ESSENTIAL
•Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
