Job Description
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the DON will provide strong clinical governance and strategic direction, ensuring residents receive safe, compassionate care that supports their wellbeing and quality of life. You will lead and motivate a multidisciplinary clinical team, fostering a positive workplace culture built on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The DON works closely with the Deputy Director of Nursing, Nurse Unit Manager and Clinical Nurses to support effective care delivery, workforce capability, and service excellence.
Clinical & Operational Leadership
* Provide strong leadership and oversight of all clinical and care operations within the facility.
* Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centered care aligned with residents' individual needs and preferences.
* Oversee compliance with Aged Care Quality Standards, relevant legislation and organisational policies, including leadership of SIRS investigations and root-cause analysis.
* Support quality, accreditation and compliance.
* Investigate and manage incidents, complaints, and risks with professionalism and timely resolution.
* Implement innovative programmes and initiatives that enhance residents' wellbeing and quality of life.
People Leadership and Team Development
* Recruit, onboard, supervise and performance-manage clinical staff within a multidisciplinary environment.
* Lead and mentor clinical staff through supervision, case conferencing and development of clinical reasoning, fostering a high-performing and collaborative multidisciplinary team culture.
* Foster a positive, collaborative workplace culture built on accountability, respect, and continuous learning.
* Provide mentoring, coaching, and professional development opportunities to strengthen workforce capability.
* Support employees through change management and the implementation of new standards and care models.
* Manage workforce planning and rostering to ensure an appropriately skilled and engaged workforce.
Clinical Governance and Financial Accountability
* Lead the implementation and monitoring of effective clinical governance processes.
* Coordinate and actively participate in the implementation of assessments and care planning for new residents (including respite residents) upon admission to the facility and assessment reviews as required.
* Manage the budget for clinical services within the facility ensuring care funding claims are accurate, compliant, and supported by appropriate documentation.
* Monitor clinical indicators and implement improvement strategies to achieve measurable resident outcomes.
* Contribute to achieving organisational KPIs including financial targets and operational efficiencies.
Strategic Contribution
* Contribute to the strategic direction and continuous improvement initiatives of Inasmuch Community.
* Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and organisational programmes.
* Maintain professional reporting and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
* Promote Inasmuch Community's reputation as a leading provider of high-quality aged care services.
Experience & Skills
* Minimum 5 years' professional practice as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions), with demonstrated aged care and leadership experience.
* Strong knowledge of aged care legislation, accreditation standards and the new Aged Care Quality Standards.
* Demonstrated experience leading and motivating teams to achieve organisational outcomes.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving and report-writing skills.
* Experience in driving quality improvement initiatives and implementing new programmes.
* Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
* Ability to use judgement, initiative and common sense when performing duties.
* Ability to demonstrate the highest level of customer service and response.
