About the opportunity

Are you looking to start your career as an Arborist? An exciting opportunity is here for you. This traineeship combines on-the-job work experience with attendance at TAFE to complete a Certificate III in Arboriculture (Elevated Work Platform – EWP Arborist). The combination provides a competitive advantage for future professional roles.

The position involves assisting in the daily operation of pruning and removing trees using sound arboriculture techniques and maintaining a large tree chipper after appropriate training. We are looking for two professionals to join our team on a term contract, full-time basis for up to 3 years, commencing January 2026. You will be attending TAFE and receiving on-the-job training, working alongside professionals in the industry.

Responsibilities

- Assist in the daily operation of pruning and removing trees using sound arboriculture techniques.
- Use and maintain a large tree chipper after appropriate training.
- Participate in on-the-job training and complete a Certificate III in Arboriculture through TAFE (including Elevating Work Platform where applicable).

Who can apply

- Applicants must be 15 years of age or older.
- No longer at school or home-schooled.
- If currently enrolled in school or home-schooled, must have:
- Completed year 9 or equivalent.
- Provide written approval to proceed from a school principal or NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) or an authorised person acting in lieu of a school principal.

- Ability to obtain a class C driver's licence when able to.
- Applicants must be Australian citizens or be eligible to work in Australia (evidence required).

- Applications need to be submitted online through Council's recruitment system.
- The selection process requires chosen applicants to undertake an interview, aptitude test and a medical examination.
