About The Role
The Youth Worker position is part of the Department of Education's Wellbeing Workforce. In this role you help students overcome barriers to school engagement, develop social and emotional skills, and connect with both school and community supports. The focus is on strengths-based support, early intervention, and fostering positive education outcomes.
As a Youth Worker here, you'd be embedded in this community mindset, helping bridge students' wellbeing with their educational success, and contributing to a broad student support system tailored to individual needs.
You will liaise with students, families, school staff and external agencies to assist students experiencing challenges at school or at home that may affect attendance, engagement, behaviour or wellbeing.
The wellbeing team plays an integral part in fostering a safe and inclusive school culture where students can thrive socially, emotionally and academically.
Key Responsibilities
Student Engagement & Support
* Build trusting and respectful relationships with students.
* Provide individual support to students facing social, emotional, behaviour or attendance challenges.
* Help students build social skills, self‑esteem and problem‑solving abilities through strengths‑based work.
Liaison & Collaboration
* Work with students, families, teachers, guidance officers, admin staff and external welfare agencies.
Monitoring & Early Intervention
* Monitor attendance patterns as an early indicator for disengagement.
* Implement early intervention strategies and coordinate follow‑up support.
Referral & Support Navigation
* Facilitate referrals to internal and external services (e.g., mental health supports, youth services).
* Assist families in accessing appropriate supports.
Program Development
* Assist in delivering group programs or activities (e.g. resilience, social skills, inclusion activities).
Advocacy
* Advocate for students' needs within the school context.
* Support positive home-school partnerships.
Administrative Duties
* Maintain accurate records, prepare reports and document interventions.
