Location: Clayton campus
Employment Type: Full-time
Duration: 2-year fixed-term appointment
Remuneration: $83,280 - $113,025 pa Level A / $118,974 - $141,283 pa Level B (plus 17% employer superannuation)
The Opportunity
The Artificial Intelligence for Law Enforcement and Community Safety (AiLECS) Lab is a partnership between Monash University, the Australian Federal Police, and industry. Along with a technical focus, the lab conducts transdisciplinary research that addresses the sociological, criminological, legal and ethical issues inherent in artificial intelligence application to law enforcement. Our research contributes to areas of community safety research including, but not limited to, child protection, fighting organised crime and online threat detection.
We are currently seeking a Research Fellow with experience in AI and machine learning research and development, with a focus on any or all of the following application areas:
 * Computer vision
 * Generative AI
 * Natural language processing and modeling
 * Forensic audio analysis and/or speech processing
Responsibilities
 * Translating research into practice by working with AiLECS stakeholders to understand real-world problems and applying research techniques to develop solutions
 * Working with a team of software engineers, multidisciplinary researchers and external stakeholders
 * Contribute to new project ideas
Qualifications and Experience
Experience in AI and machine learning research and development with interest in applying these techniques to law enforcement, ethics, criminology and community safety is desired.
