Senior/Mid Software Engineer Java Upgrade - fixed term contract (12 montThe Squiz product team is working to deliver a cloud-based Digital Experience Platform (DXP) with several core capabilities including Content Management, Optimisation tooling, AI Conversation and Platform services.We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Product Engineering team on a fixed-term basis, with a focus on uplifting our Search capability.
The focus for this role will be driving a large scale Java version upgrade for our Funnelback product.We're location-flexible
This role is open to all candidates on the east coast of Australia.This role is hybrid, allowing you to work where and when works best for you.RequirementsBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in related fields5+ years of professional hands-on experience in software development building and maintaining large-scale software productsProficiency in full-stack development, with expertise in Java and AWSHands-on experience with gitlab, docker containers or similar.Strong understanding of testing principles and demonstrated experience in implementing testing strategies to improve software quality and robustnessExperience with Agile or other iterative development methodologies.
We use Scrum for most of the teams, with some using KanbanStrong understanding of secure coding practices, particularly community standards such as OWASPDemonstrated experience in working independently to deliver large scale modernisations projectsNice to haveKnowledge of or experience working with Go language, Puppet, Selenium/Playwright test suiteSolid understanding of Information Retrieval (IR) concepts, including indexing, query processing.Proven experience migrating enterprise applications across major Java versions (e.g., from Java 8 to 17+).
Previous experience working on Search platforms, or experience integrating or using DXP, and Search platformsWhat you would do (the role day to day)Work within a team of 3-5 software engineers to help build our Digital Experience Platform.
Each team consists of a Team Lead, and 3 or 4 software engineers at different levels - junior, mid and seniorDevelop/enhance robust application code which meets all technical requirementsCollaborate with team members to generate User Stories, Acceptance Criteria and estimatesProvide guidance to junior engineers and assistance to senior engineersWrite and maintain software documentationAssist Team Leads and Engineering Managers to create and deliver technical roadmapsLead best practices in software development, code quality, and architecture across our tech stack within your team - Java, AWS, GitLab CI/CDWhy work for Squiz?
