About the division
In Business Customer, we make business personal by developing meaningful relationships built on trust to help our business customers and communities prosper.
This team manages all of our business customer needs and interactions including working with our distribution partners in branches, digital and consumer connection as well as our partners in operations to support our existing customers to grow and to attract new customer to BENs Business Banking proposition. The team has bankers in the field as well as virtual specialist team to support bankers to have more time with customers. We are regionally aligned to ensure we have a personal relationship and closeness to the customers we support and the communities we want to help grow.
About the role
The State Manager, Business Customer works across states (or large regions) where BEN has a significant business customer presence, providing personalised and dedicated experiences for business customers. The role will lead all Business Customer facing teams in that state, including Business Bankers and the Business Customer Management Team, fostering ownership and accountability within their teams with an 'own their patch' mindset. The role also works closely with our Consumer State Managers, specialist HO's such as EF, Debtor and Broker to provide a connected experience for business customers. Pro-active and closely linked to the state/regional business community, they lead with a growth mindset to attract customers to the proposition in targeted markets.
The State Manager will have a strong focus on leader development, skills capability uplift and sustainable business growth, ultimately responsible for leading and driving the performance of the Business Banking and Business Customer Management (BCM) Teams within their state(s). The role will also be accountable for the state strategy in alignment with the BEN Business Customer strategy and will be responsible for building and delivering on that strategy to ensure the Bankers and Business Customer Management team work together to achieve outcomes, taking carriage of its ownership through all levels of the organisation.
The role is a Senior Leader of BEN and will work closely with peers to support enterprise outcomes, as well as a consistent experience for Business Banking Customers.
Key responsibilities
Lead, coach and energise the Business Banking leaders and their Banking teams in the field to achieve successful outcomes for customers of BEN
Lead, coach and energise the Business Customer Management Team to work closely with our on the ground banking teams to achieve great outcomes for customers. This includes ensuring consistency to BCM teams nationally to achieve agreed metrics for bankers and customers
Empower Business Banking leaders to execute on strategy and clearly articulate why they make certain decisions, how they positively impact the bottom line and where the value lies.
Drive and monitor sales execution and sales rhythm to deliver strategic outcomes
Champion positive change across the business and contribute to the greater Business Customer leadership objectives and outcomes
Drive and lead the transformation culture and performance of the function
Build, drive and execute the vision and direction for the growth and success of state strategy, in alignment with Business Banking strategy
Identify and support staff to lead business development activities that optimise our profile and growth prospects in the local region.
Partner with Credit Management to balance customer growth and the Bank's risk appetite
About you
Proven and experienced people leader with the desire and motivation to achieve above and beyond expectations
Robust knowledge of financial statements and credit assessment with a background in business/commercial lending
Previous experience working within a professional sales role, preferably within Banking or a Commercial setting (successful experience of 10 years highly regarded)
Demonstrated Customer and Partner focus, optimising customer relationships and experiences to ensure continued portfolio growth
A thorough understanding of bank balance sheet and funding mechanisms, and Australian prudential standards
Strategic thinking, ability to inspire others, positive interaction and effective problem solving
