About the role
We're expanding our creative production team and need a meticulous Draftsperson with a desire to work within the mechanical engineering field to transform design concepts into precision blueprints.
Working hands-on with our engineers and tech teams in our on-site manufacturing facility. You will produce detailed mechanical drawings and support our engineers with design, development, and documentation across a range of manufacturing projects.
This role requires strong technical drafting skills, an understanding of mechanical systems used in manufacturing, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering, production, and fabrication teams.
Key responsibilities
* Develop detailed preliminary, planning & final working drawings for in-house workshop production.
* Assist Mechanical Engineers with design and development of components, assemblies, and production layouts.
* Interpret and convert conceptual designs, sketches, and measurements into accurate technical drawings.
* Specify materials, tooling, and manufacturing methods appropriate to each project.
* Verify accuracy and compliance of drawings with standards, tolerances, and manufacturing requirements.
* Support cost estimations and material calculations required for production.
* Work with Production, Fabrication, and QA teams to resolve drafting-related issues during manufacture.
* Maintain up-to-date drawing records and revision controls.
* Ensure all work complies with WHS legislation, Safe Work Australia guidelines, Australian Design Rules, internal engineering standards and ISO controls.
* Generate comprehensive BOMs & stock lists for manufacturing.
* Organize, maintain & archive all drawings with strict version control.
* Collaborate with engineering & tech teams to resolve issues & refine details.
* Ensure every drawing upholds our company standard and design methodology and Australian Standards.
* Generate complete workshop and site packages: sheetmetal, flat-pattern layouts, weld maps, bend allowances & BOMs
* Produce 3D models & 2D workshop and site drawings
* Perform job card reviews & update drawings from shop-floor feedback
About you
You can produce detailed mechanical drawings and support our engineers with design, development, and documentation across a range of manufacturing projects. You have strong technical drafting skills, an understanding of mechanical systems used in manufacturing, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering, production, and fabrication teams.
Essential:
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD or similar).
* Strong grasp of drafting principles, manufacturing, fabrication & Industry standards
* Exceptional attention to detail across complex drawing sets
* Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, trades, supervisors, and production teams.
* Excellent file management, version control & digital organization
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills to achieve objectives
* Minimum 2 years' mechanical drafting in fabricated metal or plastic products
* Certificate III in Engineering Drafting (or equivalent)
* Currently studying for Certificate III in Engineering Drafting is acceptable for this role
* Excellent attention to detail and time-management
* Valid Australian working visa required (applications from overseas will not be accepted)
Highly preferred:
AutoCAD (2D & DXF) and Inventor.
SolidWorks and/or Autodesk Fusion 360 for 3D prop & mechanism modelling
