About The Role As an After Hours Support Worker, you will ensure the safety and well-being of young people during nighttime hours. This dynamic role requires you to be on-call, responding to critical incidents and providing immediate assistance. Your responsibilities include delivering phone support to youth workers across residential care homes, guiding them through challenges, and offering practical advice. You will also drive to various care homes to provide in-person support, assess situations, and assist during after-hours incidents. The goal is to create a secure, supportive environment where young people feel safe and empowered outside regular hours.
You must handle high-pressure situations with professionalism, compassion, and a strong commitment to safeguarding. Your ability to remain calm and responsive in crises is vital, making you a key part of the overnight care team. We are looking for experienced youth workers who are on-call to manage high-pressure situations, offer guidance, and travel to care homes as needed. Your expertise will help ensure the safety, well-being, and independence of young people at night, while fostering strong community and family connections.
Key Selection Criteria Minimum qualification: Diploma of Youth Work, Community Services, or equivalent. Experience and willingness to participate in training for Aboriginal staff; qualification is desirable. Skills and experience in youth services, residential care, or supported accommodation. Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and understanding of issues faced by Aboriginal children and families. Experience working therapeutically with children and young people with significant challenges and trauma. Key Responsibilities Create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for young people. Assist in developing independent living skills to empower young people. Report concerns promptly to ensure safety and well-being. Support young people in maintaining important connections.
