The office of Michelle Landry is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Media and Communications Officer, based in the electorate office in Rockhampton, QLD.

Position Overview

Supporting the work of the Parliamentarian in conjunction with the Media Advisor, the Media and Communications Officer will develop and coordinate the distribution of media content and support local issue campaigning. The role will involve some interstate travel to Canberra, with occasional irregular work hours, particularly during parliamentary sitting weeks.

The Parliamentarian is seeking an enthusiastic individual with a creative mind and demonstrated media skills to join her team.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

* Assist with the development and implementation of an electorate wide multi-platform communication plan aimed at maximising media exposure and building a social media following.
* Manage multiple social media accounts, including planning and production of high quality, creative content.
* Plan and build regular email blasts and other digital communications.
* Write social media posts, newspaper articles and speeches that communicate policy and the work of the Parliamentarian.
* Manage websites including regular content uploads.
* Promote, supporting and maintaining a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
* Travel to Canberra may be required, with occasional irregular work hours, particularly during parliamentary sitting weeks.
* Other duties as required to support the Parliamentarian and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience

* An understanding of social trends, platform algorithms, and what makes content perform.
* Sound computer literacy skills including videography, photography, and graphic design experience using Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva.
* Proficiency in the use of social media platforms and Microsoft Office software and other relevant office and content creation applications.
* Knowledge of Australian political and parliamentary processes, or the ability to quickly learn.
* Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to develop concise, targeted messages to reach various audiences.
* Ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines in an environment of competing and changing priorities.
* Ability to work both cooperatively in a small team and independently with a high level of attention to detail.
* Demonstrated work ethic and ability to meet the demands and flexibility of an Electorate Office. An expectation of flexibility and working of additional hours is necessary for this role.
* A respectful demeanour when engaging with office staff and constituents.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:

* A commencing salary between $74,537 and $78,911 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.

* An additional optional allowance of up to $23,218 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.

* Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).

* An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

* An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.
* The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
* Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
* The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
