About the Role
Yumbah Aquaculture is seeking an experienced and strategically minded General Manager Kingfish to take overall responsibility for their expanding Kingfish business. The role provides strategic and operational leadership across Yumbah’s Kingfish aquaculture operations, covering the hatchery, farm, harvest and R&D.; This position is crucial in driving a high performing aquaculture operation that exemplifies best practice in safety, quality, innovation and sustainability.
As General Manager Kingfish, you will be accountable for delivering a high performing operation through disciplined fish husbandry, cost optimisation and innovative practices. You will work closely with the leadership team to develop and implement a strategic plan, oversee financial performance and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
You will lead a team of 8 direct reports with responsibility for around 80 employees, fostering a strong safety-first culture and developing people to achieve their full potential. Beyond operations, your leadership will help position Yumbah as a trusted and forward-looking partner in the region.
Success in this role means effectively connect planning with on farm operations. It requires a clear understanding of what good looks like, built from experience leading marine operational teams in finfish farming, and the ability to drive disciplined, safe husbandry practices. Equally important is the capability to coordinate planning to achieve end-to-end farming outcomes. The role demands resilience and adaptive management skills being able to respond when things do not go to plan, while always looking forward to improve systems, processes and results.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development and delivery of a five year strategic plan in collaboration with the leadership team and the wider business
- Ensure strong fish performance, cost efficiency and budget management across operations
- Set priorities for R&D; within Kingfish operations and support R&D; initiatives
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (biomass limits, fallowing, reporting, etc.)
- Build and maintain effective relationships with government agencies, customers, suppliers and local communities
- Lead, mentor, and inspire the Kingfish team, fostering open communication, accountability and a Safety First culture
- Ensure adherence to WHS practices, proactively address issues and take responsibility for the safety of self and others
- Manage the business’ risk profile and implement strategic mitigation measures
- Represent Yumbah in Port Lincoln, the Eyre Peninsula and other relevant communities, building relationships with key stakeholders
- Perform additional duties as required
Qualifications and Experience
- Solid experience in marine finfish aquaculture, including management responsibilities
- Demonstrated strength in strategic planning and long term business development
- Experience with budgeting and financial management
- Strong operational leadership and coaching skills with the ability to build and develop high-performing teams
- Comprehensive understanding of aquaculture operations and industry best practice
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong organisational and decision-making ability under pressure
- Relevant tertiary qualification in business or aquaculture desirable, but not essential
