Details: As Assistant Director, Strategic Projects you will be responsible for leading the delivery of complex strategic projects for the School Facilities Management Branch, operating with a high degree of autonomy under broad executive direction.
The primary focus of the role is the Community Use Program, a significant government initiative to increase and enhance community access to ACT public school facilities outside of school hours. The role is responsible for progressing the implementation of approved directions arising from Phase 1, including policy, procedural, systems and engagement components, and for managing emerging issues, risks and stakeholder impacts throughout delivery.
In addition, the role will lead other strategic projects arising from budget initiatives, audit or assessment findings, Directorate improvement priorities or internal operational needs. These projects typically involve complex or loosely defined problem spaces and require the role to clarify scope, develop implementation approaches and provide advice on options, risks and delivery implications for executive consideration.
The role will at times represent the Directorate in both internal and external stakeholder forums and act as a key point of contact for business partnerships. A strong communications capability is essential, given the public-facing nature of the Community Use Program and the need to support clear, consistent and well-managed messaging for schools, community users and other stakeholders. The role works closely with Communications and Engagement specialists to support public messaging, media responses and stakeholder communications.
The position requires a sound understanding of governance and probity requirements and effective negotiation skills to operate confidently in complex and sensitive environments. An openness to innovation and creative approaches to leveraging government resources for the benefit of schools and the broader community is also required.
Working under broad direction, the position requires strong analytical and problem‐solving capability, and the ability to drive strategic initiatives from conception through to implementation while managing multiple priorities concurrently.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.
Eligibility/Other requirements:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience across more than one discipline, such as project management, public administration, communications and engagement, community development, or a related field relevant to the delivery of complex initiatives in a government or similarly regulated environment.
* Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to: Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra.
