The Infection Prevention and Control Clincal Nurse (CN) is a senior level position that supports management activities in the provision of advanced practice care and advice on all infection control issues, for patients and QAS staff.

The role works within the healthcare team structure and is pivotal in the planning, managing and delivering of specialist infection prevention and control content. The CN provides support to clinical leadership for professional and clinical practice, coordination of portfolios, and education.

The role also provides a high level of clinical expertise, including clinical reasoning and problem solving in the support and education of the various organisational units within the QAS, ensuring the provision of quality, best practice patient care.

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:


* Demonstrated advanced theoretical knowledge of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases, epidemiological principles, surveillance methodology and process in line with relevant government acts and legislation to achieve best practice patient care outcomes.
* Evidence of working collaboratively in the implementation of policy, practice changes and clinical innovation, with the ability to identify inconsistencies between policy and practice.
* Highly developed communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in the cooperative planning and coordination of infection control programs and to drive change where appropriate.
* Proven ability to contribute to continuous improvement and innovation, by investigating and identifying the needs of the service through quality improvement audits and implementing risk management strategies.
* Proven knowledge of contemporary leadership principles and the ability to enthusiastically contribute to clinical leadership for QAS infection prevention

initiatives.
* Demonstrated ability to actively maintain awareness of relevant research and translate research findings to validate change, to grow the knowledge base and improve capability across the QAS and to develop best practices and assist as an educational resource within field of practice.
* Proven commitment to clinical practice and the ability to proactively plan and manage your own continuous learning through the utilisation of internal and external networks, to ensure ongoing professional development.
* Demonstrated honesty, integrity and respect for all patients, carers and staff and the proven ability to consistently deliver high levels of service to internal and external stakeholders within designated timeframes; demonstrating a logical and flexible approach and remaining outcome focused when resolving issues.

The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role:
* Applicants must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and hold a current annual practising certificate. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
* It is an express condition of employment for all people who are to perform roles with direct patient contact to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following infectious diseases during their employment: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis (Whooping Cough); Hepatitis B; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Varicella (Chickenpox); Influenza. Please note, there may be additional vaccination requirements depending on individual circumstances as specified in the QAS Infection Control Framework
* Possession of a Nurse Immuniser qualification or the ability to work towards this qualification is required.
* Whilst not mandatory, a postgraduate qualification in infection control or a related field is highly desirable.
* Recent experience in an Infection Prevention and Control Unit will be highly regarded.
* Membership of a relevant professional body will be highly regarded.
* On occasions the position may require participation in shift work (including weekends), on-call duties and undertake reasonable overtime.
