We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to provide support to the teaching, diagnostic services and research missions of the School of Veterinary Science in the discipline of Microbiology, Parasitology, research lab maintenance and general lab duties. The successful applicant will be expected to proactively contribute to other diagnostic, teaching and research areas.
Key responsibilities will include:
Diagnostic and Research Laboratory Assistance- Perform operational compliance checks on eye wash stations and regular cleaning of lab glassware.- Temperature checks and logging for lab freezers and fridges and ice maintenance.- Lab waste removal and replenishment of cleaning consumables.- Operate the autoclave and perform sterility processes.
Teaching and Research Support- Ordering and preparation of bulk media for culturing plates.- Preparation of consumables and media for practical classes.- Labelling, collation, and preparation of required equipment for practical classes.- Laying out of teaching requirements in teaching labs and packing down afterwards.- Cleaning of equipment and benchtops after each practical class.- Coordination and planning of practical classes in the MPL Teaching Lab.
This is a full-time (100%), continuing position.
At HEW level 3, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $63,689.65 - $70,103.64, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $74,516.89 - $82,021.26 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.
About You- A Certificate IV in Laboratory Skills; and/or education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of Year 12 and/or equivalent relevant experience in a scientific laboratory environment- Demonstrated technical knowledge, skills and experience of working in laboratory environments.- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work in a safe manner.- High level of inter-personal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively with colleagues and autonomously.- Self-motivated and ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and service expectations.- Commitment to excellence and an ability to work diligently with a high level of accuracy.- Ability to work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team.- An avid interest or previous experience in the teaching and training of undergraduate and/ or post-graduate students is desirable.- Laboratory teaching and research support experience is desirable.
