These hybrid roles within the Legal Services section at The Administrative Review Tribunal can be located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney or Perth.

There are multiple ongoing and non-ongoing roles available, with non-ongoing positions available up to 12 months with possibility of extension.

Remuneration: The annual salary range for the position is APS5 - $85,755 - $91,809 p.a., plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.

Please note, our Enterprise Agreement will deliver a 3.4% pay increase from 12 March 2026.

About the opportunity

The Legal Services section comprises in-house lawyers providing legal services and support related to the application of the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024, the Administrative Review Tribunal Regulations 2024, the Administrative Review Tribunal Rules 2024 and the broad range of legislation covering the jurisdiction of the Tribunal and our corporate responsibilities. We provide a range of services and products to support Tribunal members, staff and executive to perform their duties lawfully and efficiently.

The section is led by Principal Lawyers (EL2) and consists of geographically dispersed Senior Lawyers (EL1) and Lawyers (APS5 and APS6). The section has a presence in most of the Tribunal's Registry locations across the country and offers opportunities to work within one or across multiple jurisdictional areas of specialisation such as Migration, Protection, Social Security, Child Support, National Disability Insurance Scheme and Corporate Law.

About you:

You will perform a variety of tasks within the Legal Services section to assist the staff and members of the Tribunal undertake their work lawfully and efficiently. Tasks may include undertaking legal research, responding to requests for legal advice, developing legal resources and collaborating on the development and delivery of training programs.

In this role you will work closely with other APS5 and APS6 Lawyers and EL1 Senior Lawyers to ensure a consistent, high-quality and accessible service is provided to users.

To be successful you will have:

* Legal research experience including sound analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to provide sound legal advice and opinion on issues relevant to the Tribunal.
* Good written communication skills, including legal drafting skills and an ability to write for different audiences.
* Good oral communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to deal appropriately and engage constructively with people at all levels.
* Well-developed organisational skills, including the capacity to manage a range of work, competing tasks and projects and deliver high-quality, professional and accurate work within set timeframes.
* The ability to work constructively, cooperatively, collaboratively and flexibly as part of a geographically dispersed team and section.
* Knowledge of the operations, jurisdiction, practice and procedure of the Tribunal, or a demonstrated capacity to acquire that knowledge quickly.

Essential:

* Admission, or eligibility to be admitted, as a legal practitioner, however described, of the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory.
* Hold, or be eligible to hold, a current practising certificate.
* Australian Citizenship.
