Country: Sweden
Deadline: 14 August 2025
Fields: Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Physics
The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a PhD student position in the field of conducting polymer fibers for wearable electronics. The successful candidate will join the research group of Professor Christian Müller, focusing on the interplay between electrical and mechanical properties of conjugated polymers and the development of advanced fiber spinning processes for wearable device integration.
Project Overview
The primary objective of this doctoral project is to investigate the mechanical and electrical characteristics of conjugated polymers and to develop scalable manufacturing techniques for conducting polymer fibers. The research will encompass fiber spinning, integration of fibers into wearable devices such as organic electrochemical transistors, and comprehensive characterization using methods including tensile testing, dynamic mechanical analysis, nanoindentation, and atomic force microscopy. The candidate will collaborate closely with both academic and industrial partners in Sweden and internationally.
Requirements
* A Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
* Demonstrated experience in polymer processing and characterization, with emphasis on solution-processed conjugated polymers
* Excellent teamwork and collaboration abilities
* Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
Additional Merits
* Prior experience in organic electronics and/or fiber spinning is highly valued
Contract Terms
The PhD position is a full-time employment for four years, with the possibility of extension up to 4.5 years with teaching duties (up to 10%). The starting monthly salary is approximately 34,000 SEK, with full employee benefits.
Application Procedure
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their application before the deadline of 14 August 2025.
