Primary objective
Provide comprehensive sexual health and blood borne virus clinical services for Darwin Urban and surrounding district and
contribute to formulation and the implementation of public health responses and strategies

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide sexual health services at Clinic 34 as part of a multidisciplinary health care team and outreach services as and when
required as part of the wider Centre for Disease Control (CDC)-Environmental Health (EH) Public Health Unit of Primary Health
Care.
2. Provide information, referral, education and support for general practitioners, district medical officers and community health
professionals.
3. Conduct professional development programs, both on-site as clinical learning and to the broader community as part of in-
service/orientation programs.
4. Assist in the development and implementation of sexual health and public health strategies and guidelines.
5. Assist sexual health physician in development establishment and evaluation of clinical governance protocols /frame works.
6. Undertake/contribute to relevant research, clinical trials, special projects or committees in sexual health and public health areas
as directed.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Medical degree and registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. At least 4 years postgraduate clinical experience.
3. Demonstrated experience in the management of patients with sexually transmitted infections and blood borne viruses.
4. Demonstrated understanding of public health issues and concepts.
5. Well-developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability in working flexibly,
independently and as part of a team.
6. High level of computer literacy including use of the internet, email, word processing and databases.
7. Current Northern Territory manual driver’s licence or ability to obtain.
8. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures
Desirable
1. Additional postgraduate qualifications e.g. in public health, sexual health, infectious diseases.
2. Demonstrated working experience in Aboriginal health.
