Locomotive Mechanical Fitter - Workshop Based (Chipping Norton)
Qualified and experienced Bogie (Locomotive) Maintainer/Fitter required for a leading maintenance facility focused on the Australian rail industry. Based at our dedicated maintenance premises, you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end service and repair of freight wagon bogies and their major components for various Australian railway operators. This is a hands‑on role involving full bogie repair processes, including washing, stripping, welding, and meticulous rebuilding.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform comprehensive maintenance, component change‑outs, and repairs on freight wagon bogies.
* Execute warranty repairs promptly and professionally as required.
* Accurately identify and report technical faults in detail.
* Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to guide repair and maintenance activities.
* Operate a range of fixed and mobile tools and machinery safely and efficiently.
* Strictly adhere to all company policies, procedures, and relevant work instructions, maintaining a strong commitment to safety at all times.
* Complete all necessary documentation, including production/work orders, material consumption records, check sheets, and time sheets accurately.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
* Recognised Trade Qualification as a Fitter (Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner, etc.).
* Proven ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications.
* A demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining a high standard of work with a keen eye for detail.
Desirable
* Current welding qualifications and practical welding experience.
* Prior experience working with railway freight wagons or rolling stock components.
* Experience in vehicle body building or similar heavy mechanical environments.
