Flexible working arrangements (i.e. a combination of onsite attendance at an AEC office and remote working) will be considered.Length of contract: 12 monthsContract extensions: 1x 12 monthsSecurity clearance: Must be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1Rates: $100 - $130 per hour (inc. super)Within the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), the Funding and Disclosure Reform Program was established to enable the AEC to implement and administer legislative amendments to the Commonwealth Funding and Disclosure Scheme (the Scheme) as set out in Part XX of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 (Electoral Act) to increase transparency and accountability in Australia’s electoral system. The Program is made up of three branches – the Program Management Office Branch, the Regulatory Enablement Branch, and the Technology Delivery Branch – that will work together to uplift the AEC’s regulatory capability by designing, building and implementing new processes, resourcing, tools, systems and technology to successfully administer the Scheme.The AEC is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to prepare raw data for analytical or operational uses. They make data accessible so that it can be used for optimisation, delivery of services and enhanced analytics solutions.Key duties and responsibilities:This role will be responsible for, but not limited to:Collaborate closely with data scientists, software engineers, business analysts, and cloud architects to deliver integrated solutions meeting business requirements, utilising Microsoft Azure tools such as Azure Data Factory, Data Lakes, Machine Learning and Synapse.Develop and maintain ETL pipelines to ensure efficient and secure data transfer between systems, adhering to best practices for data processing and transformation.Design and maintain data models, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and availability while considering scalability and performance optimisations.Ensure data quality, consistency, and security throughout the data lifecycle.Document data architecture, workflows, and integration, including technical specifications, data flow diagrams, and operational procedures.Troubleshoot and resolve data related issues, working collaboratively with the team to implement effective solutions and prevent recurrence.Participate in agile ceremonies, code reviews, testing, and performance tuning activities.Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends related to data engineering, applying this knowledge to improve integration processes and tools.Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed by the Director/Team Leader from time to time.Essential CriteriaProven experience in data engineering, including data integration, ETL processes, and data modelling with knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.Advanced proficiency in SQL with the ability to write complex queries, stored procedures, functions and performance optimised scripts.Experience with Azure cloud services, especially those relevant to data engineering (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Functions, Azure Blob Storage, Machine Learning).Sound knowledge and experience in successfully managing and delivering results within time constraints and with competing priorities.Proven ability to communicate with influence, negotiate outcomes and manage complex stakeholder relationships, including across a geographically dispersed network.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.Desirable CriteriaBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).Experience with DevOps practices in Azure environments and relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Azure Data Engineer, AWS Certified Data Analytics).Knowledge of RESTful API design and implementation.Familiarity with agile methodologies and working in cross-functional teams.HOW TO APPLYPlease provide an updated CV (a maximum of 3 pages) to reflect your suitablility to the role based on the job description.
