The Associate Director, Government Relations & Advocacy leads the Council of Australian Life Insurers (CALI)'s government relations and advocacy program, ensuring the life insurance industry is effectively represented, understood and influential in political, parliamentary and national policy decision‐making forums.

The Associate Director reports to the General Manager, Corporate Affairs and Strategy (General Manager). The role is central to CALI's collaborative approach to working with government and will help develop and manage legislative advocacy efforts as well as monitor and respond to relevant government policy developments that impact the industry and the millions of Australians that it supports.
The role works closely with the CEO and General Manager to engage proactively with Ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs), Senators and their offices, and to translate CALI's policy positions, research and evidence into compelling advocacy, education and communications materials.
This is a full-time hybrid role based in Sydney or Canberra. Interstate travel may be required.
Knowledge, experience and skills required
* 5+ years' experience in government relations and/or working as a political adviser or in an equivalent political role.
* Proven networks and substantial experience engaging with political stakeholders, particularly at Federal Government level.
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships with peers and stakeholders.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with significant experience in articulating complex policy issues to a wide range of audiences.
* Experience in life insurance or the financial services industry is highly regarded.
