About the Opportunity: The Screen Queensland Partnership
As part of our continued investment in emerging talent, Gameloft Brisbane is launching this prestigious internship program in partnership with Screen Queensland. This isn't just a "learning" role—it is a hands-on, real-world immersion into a professional game development studio.
Interns at Gameloft Brisbane are treated as integral members of the production team. You will work alongside industry veterans, contribute directly to live, high-profile projects, and gain exposure to the proprietary tools, professional workflows, and best practices that define AAA game development. Throughout the program, you will receive:
* Structured Mentorship: One-on-one guidance from senior animators.
* Performance Feedback: Regular reviews to sharpen your technical and artistic skills.
* Career Foundation: A comprehensive understanding of the game development lifecycle.
Detailed Job Description
As an Intern Animator, your primary mission is to breathe life into our digital worlds. You won't just be moving joints in a rig; you will be telling stories through movement. You will collaborate closely with Animation Leads, Technical Animators, Designers, and Artists to ensure that every character, object, and environmental element moves with purpose and aligns with the artistic vision of the game.
This role is designed to transition you from a student mindset to a professional production mindset. You will learn how to handle feedback loops, how to optimise animations for cross-platform performance, and how to maintain stylistic consistency across a massive project.
Key Responsibilities
* Animation Development: Create high-quality 3D animations for a variety of assets, including humanoid characters, creatures, mechanical objects, and environmental props.
* Style Alignment: Work under the direction of the Animation Lead to ensure all work meets the specific visual style and "feel" of the current project.
* Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Partner with Technical Animators to troubleshoot rigs and with Character Artists to ensure mesh deformation is optimal.
* Pipeline Integration: Learn and follow studio-specific workflows for exporting animations into game engines and managing version control.
* Active Participation: Join daily stand-ups, creative brainstorms, and formal animation reviews, contributing your voice to the creative process.
Candidate Qualifications
Gameloft Brisbane is looking for candidates who possess a blend of technical proficiency and creative spark.
* Education: A Bachelor's degree in Animation, Game Design, or a closely related field (recently completed or in final stages).
* Technical Portfolio: A strong, curated demo reel demonstrating 3D animation skills. We are looking for a solid grasp of the 12 Principles of Animation, with a focus on weight, timing, and appeal.
* Software Mastery: Proficiency in Autodesk Maya is essential. You should be comfortable with keyframing, graph editor manipulation, and basic rigging concepts.
* Soft Skills: Excellent attention to detail and the ability to articulate your creative choices. You must be able to take constructive criticism and pivot quickly based on feedback.
* Residency: You must be able to prove that Queensland is your primary place of residence.
Bonus Points:
* Unreal Engine Experience: While not a hard requirement, familiarity with UE4/UE5 (specifically Blueprints, Sequencer, or Persona) will give you a significant head start.
* Motion Capture: Any experience editing or cleaning up MoCap data.
