The Role
We are seeking a committed and culturally responsive individual to support the wellbeing, engagement, and success of our Aboriginal students. The Aboriginal Student Support Officer will work collaboratively with school staff, families, and external agencies to develop and implement effective support strategies and culturally appropriate interventions.
Key responsibilities
* Supporting the coordination of the Student Support Program.
* Assisting teachers with strategies to engage and support Aboriginal students.
* Strengthening connections between students, families, the school, and community services.
* Participating in case management, student assessments, and crisis response.
* Contributing to school planning and projects related to Aboriginal education and cultural responsiveness.
This role is vital in fostering a safe, inclusive, and empowering school environment for Aboriginal students. Supporting students and addressing diverse needs will be a key focus, along with collaborating with the Student Services team to provide social and emotional support, encouraging engagement and achievement.
Selection criteria and qualifications
The successful applicant will ideally have a positive, caring attitude, attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines, and thrive in a team environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for effective collaboration within the school community.
Eligibility
* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

o Demonstrated effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.
