Child Safe Responsibilities
Bayside Christian College is committed to the fulfilment of the two greatest Commandments from our Lord:
'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[a]38This is the first and greatest commandment.39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.'[b]40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Matthew 22: 36-40
The safety and wellbeing of our students is the deepest expression of our response to these Commandments. Children are a truly precious gift from God, and as a Christian school, we have an obligation and calling to not only support and enable their physical and emotional safety, but to develop in them, the learnings and love for our Lord, in support of their spiritual safety.
The College has zero tolerance for child abuse and/ or anything that puts a child's safety or wellbeing at risk, and is committed to the protection of all children from such behaviours. To this end, the College implements a comprehensive Child Safe Programme across the entire College community:
Staff are responsible for understanding and applying the College's Child Safe policies, contributing positively to a child-safe environment, and being proactive in reporting any concerns or identified risk;
Parents are supported in their vital role in raising their child through the educational partnership in which they enter; and
Students are encouraged to grow in Christ's light, to learn how to live with others, and to grow in their understanding and love of Christ.
Failure to contribute positively to a child-safe environment or failing to report a matter that should have been reasonably understood to have placed a child at risk, or any matter in breach of our child-safe policies, may result in the employee being subject to disciplinary action, up to and including the termination of employment.
Bayside Christian College seeks to work in prayerful and constructive support with all families and those in need, but is obliged and will report matters of concern related to child safety to the regulatory authorities. Under Legislation, any matter of concern, complaint or allegation pertaining to child safety must be reported to Regulatory Authorities, including any failure to report.
