Primary objective
Deliver accurate financial reporting and ledger management to ensure compliance with accounting standards and taxation
requirements. Provide timely, high-quality advice and support to stakeholders to enable informed decision-making.
Context statement
The Finance and Business Services Unit is a small, busy team that provides essential financial management services, including
accounts payable and receivable, ledger management, taxation advice, reporting, and budget management. The team plays
a critical role in ensuring compliance and supporting the agency's financial integrity.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Maintain accurate ledgers and process financial transactions, including end-of-month reconciliations and accruals.
2. Assist in the preparation of financial statements and deliver timely financial reports and analysis to support decision
making in line with compliance and audit requirements.
3. Provide advice and support on taxation matters (GST, FBT) and assist with returns.
4. Ensure adherence to accounting standards, internal controls, and relevant legislation.
5. Assist with improving financial policies, procedures, and reporting processes and contribute to initiatives that enhance
service delivery.
6. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and provide guidance on financial systems and compliance
requirements.
7. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a small, busy team
environment.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in financial management, including ledger reconciliations, journal processing, and internal
controls.
2. Knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and relevant legislation, with the ability to interpret and apply this
knowledge.
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
4. Effective communication skills and ability to build productive relationships with stakeholders.
5. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines and support continuous improvement.
7. Flexibility and adaptability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business, or related fields.
2. Experience in process improvement and service delivery.
