MANAGER YADLAMALKA/WILKATANA STATIONS, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
We seek a manager for Yadlamalka / Wilkatana station which is located about 45km north of Port Augusta SA.
These two properties are run as one unit and comprise of around 1,400 square kilometers. They can run up to 19,000 DSE dorper sheep, although the approach taken is to stock conservatively.
Yadlamalka has been in the Doman family for over 100 years. Wilkatana, the adjacent property to Yadlamalka was acquired in January 2025. These two properties are run collaboratively as part of a larger aggregation which includes Beltana and Lake Torrens stations, with their own respective managers
Yadlamalka and Wilkatana are located on the western side of the picturesque Flinders Ranges and are close to the amenities of Port Augusta
Accommodation will be provided in the Wilkatana Homestead, which is a four bedroom 1970s house with a fenced above ground pool. There is an option of moving to the Yadlamalka Homestead (if preferred) once extensive repairs have been carried out by builders on the Homestead. (Yadlamalka Homestead sustained considerable damage in a severe storm in late 2024)
The manager will have a considerable degree of autonomy with responsibility for overall management and development of the properties including development of the dorper flock, improving water infrastructure, telemetry, yards, and fencing, with the aim of achieving a benchmark standard and improved efficiency. The owners are willing to invest the capital required to achieve these outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- 15 years plus in sheep including significant Dorper experience on pastoral properties.
- Evidence of increasing levels of responsibility and good length of tenure with former employers
- proven ability to recruit, develop and motivate staff in line with performance expectations
- Agricultural college degree or equivalent study is highly desirable.
- Other desirable skills include diesel mechanic, pilot licence, heavy vehicle, dozer, digger, and grader tickets
- Familiar with remote monitoring.
- Good understanding of and an ability to use computers and technology.
- familiarity with the use of analytical skills in farm management practices
- Interest in pastoral country rehabilitation methods.
- familiarity with WHS legislation
- Prepared to make a long term commitment.
