About Murujuga Commercial Limited (MCL)
Murujuga Commercial Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC). Its mandate is to pursue and manage commercial ventures that generate long-term social and economic benefits for the Murujuga community. MCL has successfully established joint ventures servicing the resource sector on the Burrup Peninsula and is actively seeking to expand its commercial footprint.
Role Purpose
The Independent Director contributes to the strategic governance of MCL, ensuring the organisation operates effectively, sustainably, and in alignment with Murujuga community values. The role provides independent judgement, oversight, and leadership to strengthen MCL's governance, partnerships, and commercial success.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic guidance on the development and management of joint venture businesses and future commercial opportunities.
* Oversee governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks.
* Ensure financial accountability through review and interpretation of financial statements.
* Support ethical and transparent decision-making aligned with MCL's objectives and values.
* Collaborate with fellow Directors and the executive team to drive the organisation's vision and mission.
* Represent MCL positively in dealings with stakeholders, including industry partners, government, and Traditional Owners.
* Attend and contribute to Board meetings in person (Burrup or Perth) and/or online, with appropriate preparation and review of Board papers.
Essential Selection Criteria
* Proven governance experience, ideally within corporate, government, or not-for-profit sectors.
* Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal corporations or Traditional Owner organisations.
* Strong financial literacy, with the ability to analyse and interpret financial reports.
* Track record of strategic leadership and executive-level decision-making.
* Knowledge and/or experience in the resources sector, particularly in the Pilbara region.
* High standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical leadership.
* Alignment with MCL's values and commitment to advancing the economic aspirations of the Murujuga community.
* Willingness and capacity to commit time and effort to MCL Board duties.
Remuneration and Benefits
* Annual remuneration of $25,000 (inclusive of superannuation), pro rata.
