The role
Fixed interest specialist
* Manage mandates of government bonds, corporate bonds, mortgage-backed securities, and other fixed income instruments.
* Construct and maintain diversified portfolios to meet return, duration, and risk targets.
* Compile advisory reports and make informed recommendations on new investment/asset class opportunities and funds/strategies that could enhance or diversify portfolios.
* Monitor economic and industry conditions and assess the impact on existing fixed income book pools. Interpret macroeconomic indicators: inflation, interest rates, central bank policy. Knowledge of monetary policy and economic cycles.
* Deep understanding of bond math, duration, convexity, yield curves, and spread analysis.
* Ability to evaluate issuer creditworthiness and familiarity with credit ratings (Moody's, S&P, Fitch) and internal credit models.
Portfolio construction and management
* Drive improvement of SAA framework and align fixed income investments with life insurance liabilities.
* Be a key source for and provide oversight of quantitative applications to portfolios (SAA, Manager Selection, Risk, Attribution, Factor).
* Asset allocation specialization within fixed income mandates. Managing risk-adjusted returns, cashflows, and liability matching.
* Enhance and/or develop sections of the Investment committee process.
Investment Compliance
* Regular production, auditing and delivery of timely and accurate compliance monitoring for strategies to the Head of Investments, ensuring adherence to procedures and control checks, on a daily / monthly / quarterly basis.
* Investigate breaches of mandate or capital restrictions, and then identify and communicate the cause to Head of Investment.
* Maintenance and requests to ensure complete reporting, such as adding rules, portfolios, benchmarks, and custom reporting as needed.
About you
* 5–10 years in investment management, ideally with insurance, defined benefit or other liability matching exposure.
* Experience managing or assisting fixed income portfolios.
* Outgoing and hardworking with the ability to deal with complex financial problems.
* Tertiary qualification in Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, or Quantitative disciplines.
* CFA / Masters (or working towards) or Actuarial training viewed favourably.
* Advanced Excel skills and a strong understanding of information technology (coding experience viewed favourably).
* Good written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with committees.
