As a Counsellor at the University of Melbourne, you will provide crucial psychological support to a diverse student and staff community. You will deliver individual and group therapy, workshops, and training, focusing on short-term interventions and risk management. This role supports mental health initiatives that directly impact wellbeing within the academic community.
Responsibilities
 * Provide high-quality psychological counselling: conduct assessments, manage high-risk situations, and deliver short-term interventions for students and staff.
 * Develop and deliver mental health initiatives: plan and run in-person and online therapeutic groups, workshops, and training programs.
 * Ensure clinical excellence: participate in supervision, maintain case records, and stay current with counselling practices and emerging issues.
 * Collaborate and contribute: work within a multidisciplinary team, potentially supervise interns, and contribute to a safe, inclusive workplace environment.
Qualifications and experience
 * You may be a registered psychologist (clinical or counselling endorsed) or accredited mental health social worker with a relevant postgraduate degree.
 * Extensive experience in providing counselling and psychotherapeutic services to diverse populations.
 * Strong skills in planning and delivering therapeutic group interventions and workshops.
 * Demonstrated ability to assess and manage complex clinical matters within a short-term counselling model.
 * Demonstrate cultural responsiveness and ability to work with individuals from various backgrounds.
 * Experience in clinical supervision and working within a university context is desirable.

About CAPS and the team
Your new team is Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS), part of Wellbeing Services in Student and Scholarly Services. CAPS provides free psychological counselling to students and staff (individual and group) and delivers training and consultancy. The service is led by a Head with three Senior Counsellors and a team of around 35 staff including Counsellors, Locum/Psychology Registrars, Intern Counsellors, and admin staff.
