Based in either Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane and reporting directly to the General Counsel and Director, Legal, Assurance and Governance, the Deputy General Counsel provides high quality legal advice to key internal stakeholders and leads the legal team within the Office of General Counsel (OGC), a key part of the Legal, Assurance and Governance Directorate. The Deputy General Counsel manages a team of legal practitioners and applies their advanced legal expertise to ensure compliance and protect the University's interests. Working collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders the Deputy General Counsel develops practical and legally sound solutions aligned with the university's strategic priorities, policies and procedures.
We are looking for an experienced legal executive with a current unrestricted Australian Practicing certificate and demonstrated ability to provide strategic and commercially sound advice and guidance in an ethical, independent, and impartial manner across a diverse range of specialised and complex, legal, and regulatory issues. Experience working as a senior in-house legal counsel for a not-for-profit entity and / or in the higher education sector would be beneficial.

The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative, astute and mission-led professional who will work in partnership with colleagues across other central service functions and the academic community to drive transformation and improved performance.
