Mechanical Engineer – Reliability & Improvement


Location : Kwinana / Permanent - Full time

About the Role


As an Asset Improvement Engineer - Mechanical, you will play a key role in enhancing the performance, reliability and integrity of critical plant equipment.

This position combines reliability engineering, technical troubleshooting, and asset improvement project delivery. You will work closely with maintenance, operations and project teams to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently and in line with statutory and operational requirements.

Your work will directly reduce downtime, improve asset health, strengthen maintenance strategies, and contribute to long-term plant performance.


What You Will Do

* Support mechanical reliability and asset improvement initiatives
* Troubleshoot rotating and static equipment issues and provide technical support to maintenance teams
* Develop maintenance procedures, testing protocols and engineering standards
* Support the development of maintenance budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities
* Conduct engineering calculations and assessments to support decision-making
* Inspect critical jobs and confirm work quality against standards and specifications
* Define repair scopes with vendors and assist in developing repair procedures
* Support project engineering teams in assessing maintainability of new or modified installations
* Apply value analysis for repair/replace, redesign and make/buy decisions
* Conduct life cycle costing and contribute to long-term asset strategy development
* Ensure statutory compliance for mechanical plant and equipment
* Administer change management processes, including drawings and documentation
* Champion safety and high WSH standards across all activities


About You


You bring strong rotating equipment experience, have worked extensively in chemical or complex processing plants, and are confident delivering effective maintenance strategy solutions. You combine hands-on mechanical knowledge with solid reliability engineering skills, enabling you to improve asset performance, support investigations and drive practical improvements across plant equipment

Essential Skills & Experience required to be successful with your application

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
* Expertise with rotating equipment experience (pumps, blowers, agitators, compressors)
* Had hands on experience in Chemical / Complex Processing Plants
* Proven delivery of maintenance strategy solutions (RCM, PM optimisation)
* Experience in reliability investigations (RCA/5Y)
* Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques
* Competence with pressure equipment, tanks and welding defect standards
* Understanding of corrosion, metallurgy and materials selection
* Knowledge of Australian Standards and OHS legislation
* Experience with lifecycle costing and asset strategy decisions
* SAP CMMS and AWB experience (desirable)
* Strong documentation and change management skills
