Overview
Canva’s DX:Build team acts as the front door for developers, creating tools and experiences that shape how thousands of developers build on Canva. This role focuses on leading frontend engineering efforts to deliver excellent developer experiences, tooling, and documentation for the Canva Ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Coach and support a team of frontend engineers to grow their careers, stay motivated, and deliver impactful work.
- Lead the team that builds developer-facing tools, starter kits, and documentation for the Canva Ecosystem and integrations.
- Drive the creation of beautiful, intuitive, and high-quality developer experiences—from CLIs and toolbars to rich documentation and starter projects.
- Ensure public-facing code and docs meet high standards for design, accessibility, performance, and maintainability.
- Champion developer empathy by understanding external developer workflows and building quick, delightful tools.
- Collaborate with PMs, designers, and engineers across DX and Ecosystem to shape strategy and deliver on big-picture goals.
- Drive planning, refinement, and delivery of seasonal goals aligned with broader priorities.
- Contribute to code, review public PRs, and shape the tone and voice of developer documentation.
- Foster a team culture that values openness, quality, and developer happiness.
Qualifications
- Experience leading frontend engineering teams with strategy aligned to a larger vision.
- Strong technical depth in modern frontend development and the ability to uphold high standards for open-source code.
- Passion for developer experience and empathy for external developers, creating tools that simplify complex workflows.
- Pragmatic approach to technical trade-offs, sustaining long-term maintainability.
- Excellent cross-disciplinary communication to represent the team’s work to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to coach and grow engineers, fostering psychological safety and inclusion.
- Lead by example with Canva’s values and engineering best practices.
- Bonus: experience maintaining a widely used (ideally open-source) SDK and developer tooling/documentation.
