We're looking for a Control Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team at Creature Technology Company. You'll design, develop, and commission control systems that bring large-scale animatronic creatures to life for live audiences around the world. This is a hands‐on role working across the full project lifecycle, from early design through to on-site commissioning.
Why This Role Matters
Our control systems are critical to how our creatures move, perform, and operate safely in demanding, real‐world environments. In this role, you'll work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to deliver robust, reliable systems that sit at the heart of each build. Your work will have a direct, visible impact on the final creature and how audiences experience it.
What You'll Do
* Design and develop industrial control systems for large‐scale animatronic builds.
* Program and configure control logic using Rockwell (Allen‐Bradley) PLCs.
* Produce clear, accurate technical documentation, including system designs and test reports.
* Work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to integrate control systems into broader designs.
* Commission and test control systems in the workshop and on site, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
* Apply control theory to diagnose faults and improve system performance and reliability.
* Support project delivery by communicating progress, risks, and technical decisions with project teams.
* Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of control systems practices.
* Share knowledge with other engineers through documentation, reviews, and informal mentoring.
Job Requirements
You could be the one if you...
* Have experience developing and commissioning industrial control systems.
* Have hands‐on experience with Rockwell (Allen‐Bradley) PLCs.
* Experience with supporting tooling such as Studio 5000 software, FactoryTalk SCADA, and version control tools (GIT / Bitbucket).
* Hold a tertiary qualification in Mechatronics, Electronics, Automation, Robotics, or a related engineering discipline.
* Experience with motion control systems, including electric, or servo actuation.
* Experience working in industrial automation, machinery control, or large electromechanical systems.
* Understanding of machine functional safety principles.
* Professional Engineer with Victorian Registration (or eligible for obtaining).
* Are comfortable working across the full project lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning.
* Can work full‐time, onsite at our Port Melbourne office.
* Communicate clearly and enjoy working as part of a collaborative, multi‐disciplinary team.
Nice to Have
* Experience with hydraulic actuation.
* Qualification / Certification in functional machine safety.
* Exposure to entertainment, theme parks, theatre, or live performance environments.
