Overview
The Infrastructure Operations team is looking for Data centre Trainee Technicians to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. Data centre Technicians are the primary resolver and troubleshoot and solve a range of data centre infrastructure issues including but not limited to hardware, fiber networking and related problems. If you like to use IT principles such as computer architecture and the OSI model and apply them to finding solutions to problems we would like to meet you. Your work will help maintain one of the world's largest information system infrastructures.
Key Responsibilities
* Engage in physical data centre activities, including planning and tracking capacity, rack deployment, rack cabling, hardware and software troubleshooting, and rack decommissioning.
* Problem Solving: Maintain a high level of system reliability by prioritising and resolving trouble tickets efficiently, deep diving into Linux server issues, and troubleshooting XEN service virtualization.
* Technical: Troubleshoot technical issues on various platforms ranging from systems through to power/mechanical, remediate physical layer outages for systems & network, recover physical power issues on racks, and participate in data centre power & cooling events.
* Operations: Meet 24x7 on‑call requirements and respond during shift rotations, install and configure racks of hosts in line with internal SLAs, triage and resolve trouble tickets for all devices, act as data centre point of contact for high severity issues, replace server and network device parts, ensure correct rotation of parts & spares, enforce Amazon's security best practices, interact with third‑party vendors & contractors, and contribute ideas to improve operational efficiency.
* Project Management: Participate in and deliver on high‑impact small to mid‑scale projects, attend team meetings for metric analysis and project status updates, and help build the world's largest cloud infrastructure.
Requirements
* Minimum 2 years of experience with server hardware.
* Minimum 1 year of experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems.
* Server hardware troubleshooting experience.
* Bachelor's degree in an IT‑related field or equivalent professional or military experience.
* Hands‑on experience with one or more of the following hardware platforms (e.g., Dell, HP) is a plus.
* Previous experience working in a data centre environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment).
* Valid driver's licence and own vehicle to travel between sites.
* Ability to lift and rack equipment up to 20 kg and work in cramped or elevated spaces while adhering to health & safety guidelines.
* Must be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance.
* Will cover 24x7 shift rotation.

We are experiencing rapid growth; onboarding will be dynamic with diverse experience across new and established AWS data centres and rotation through various locations for training and deployment.
