Staff Specialist Medical Oncology – Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District - Cancer Services

Temporary Part time – 0.4 FTE (for 12 months with view to extending) | Wollongong Hospital (TWH) | REQ605324 | Staff Specialist | Applications close: Tuesday 7 October 2025

This position is primarily based at Illawarra Cancer Care Centre, whilst providing inpatient services to Wollongong Hospital and outpatient services to Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital. The Medical Oncologist position is networked, with a commitment to consultative services across the district.

The position holder will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Cancer Care Service.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, the provision of specialist Cancer Care services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients at the relevant hospital.

The Medical Oncologist will ensure provision of high quality Cancer Care services to all patients within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

The Medical Oncologist will proactively:

- Support the development of Cancer Care services
- Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice
- Support and develop medical oncology research within the department

Applicants expecting to be awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) within six months may be considered.

Wollongong Hospital, located on Dharawal Country, is the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
