As a frontline Child Protection Practitioner (P1/P2) in Alice Springs (or Mparntwe in the Arrernte language) you form part of a dedicated team of professionals delivering integrated statutory and non-statutory welfare services to vulnerable children and families. Depending upon your professional experience your duties may include assessing individual, family and community issues, applying appropriate methods of intervention, delivering case work and case management services, undertaking statutory responsibilities and exercising delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act. To be successful, you require a tertiary qualification which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, Australian Community Workers Association or the Australian Psychological Society or equivalent tertiary qualifications. A strong understanding of the principles and functions of delivering statutory and non-statutory welfare services, conducting strength bases assessments, developing and delivering effective interventions, and a demonstrated capacity to interpret and apply complex legislation is essential. In addition, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, family and community structures, with the ability to communicate and work in a culturally safe manner.
