This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2026

The Role

The Student Support Coordinator is an integral role in the School of Isolated and Distance Education's (SIDE's) Referrals team, working closely with SIDE Regional Coordinators, Learning Area leaders and the School Psychology team to strengthen coordination practices and build staff capacity across the school. The Referrals program supports students with severe physical and mental health challenges and pregnant students wanting to continue their schooling in a highly supportive online environment.

This role supports the development of best practice in providing continuity of schooling for severely ill or pregnant students, while ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures. The successful applicant should contribute to sophisticated workflows used to monitor students' academic progress and risk profiles. Mentoring, consultation and guidance around case management would be provided to support Regional and Referrals Coordinators in responding to complex student needs.

The successful applicant should be able to work effectively within a large and complex staffing profile, engaged in providing highly effective direction and support for parents, staff and students. The successful applicant should display leadership within whole school initiatives, particularly in the Referrals Program. Through these responsibilities, the coordinator should help strengthen a positive, inclusive and supportive school culture for students and families dealing with severe and complex health issues.

A significant component of the role involves leadership in case management. The Student Support Coordinator would collaborate closely with the Referrals Coordinator, School Psychology Team, Partner School Case Managers and the SIDE Deputy Principal, School and Student Services to support coordinated and effective case management processes. The coordinator would actively assist Learning Area leaders in planning processes for students and should provide guidance on appropriate referrals to external agencies where additional support may be required. The successful applicant plays an important role in managing crisis, to ensure coordinated, timely and supportive responses to critical incidents involving students.

The successful applicant will ideally have considerable knowledge and understanding of the delivery of pastoral care, alternative support agencies and pathways, education programs and/or behaviour/risk management planning. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are highly desirable to succeed in this role.

School of Isolated And Distance Education

SIDE is the main centre for Kindergarten to Year 12 distance education and online learning. It provides quality education for students who for various reasons cannot attend classes in a mainstream school.

SIDE offers the same education opportunities and support as most primary and secondary schools, including support for students with disabilities, students with learning difficulties and gifted and talented students. A feature of the student experience at SIDE is the support from teachers in all years, and our secondary student services team. We have a broad range of Year 11 and 12 courses, catering for all post-school destinations, including university, TAFE, private providers and employment.
