Housing/Shelter Support Worker Job Description

The Housing / Shelter Support Worker participates directly in identifying clients' problems, needs and risks. They plan and conduct individual counseling sessions using various techniques, such as active listening and conflict resolution. The worker provides specific basic life skills building in problem areas and advocates for residents, resolving difficult or sensitive issues.
Key responsibilities include:
* Assisting with resident support plan development and delivery of services
* Developing rapport and trusting relationships with residents
* Performing wellness checks and distributing harm reduction supplies
* Assisting with activities such as room cleans and clean outs
* Evaluating the effectiveness of intervention plans and reporting on clients' progress
Requirements include a Diploma in a related human/social service field and a minimum of one (1) year recent related experience. This position requires union membership and offers competitive compensation and benefits, including vacation pay, health and dental coverage, and more. Shifts: Full time, three 12-hour shifts (36 hours/week), Tues, Weds, Thurs (7am to 7pm), Compensation: $27.54 to $31.61 per hour.]
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* Basic computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
* Training in non-violent crisis intervention techniques and harm reduction approach
* Knowledge of services available to shelter users and residents
* Strong problem solving, decision making, communication and collaboration skills
* Ability to work in an intense and challenging work environment
