We assist those affected by domestic and family violence across family law, civil law, and more. With offices in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, we also lead education, reform, and outreach initiatives to support systemic change.The RoleDue to ongoing organisational growth, Central Australian Women’s Legal Service (CAWLS) has a newly available opportunity for a full-time Civil Lawyer/Solicitor (Women’s Rights) to join our team in Alice Springs, NT, on a 2-year contract.Key responsibilities:Provide legal advice and representation in areas including family law, domestic violence, tenancy, and employmentAppear in courts and tribunals (including duty lawyer work)Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary, trauma-informed teamParticipate in community outreach (including remote travel) and deliver legal educationBuild partnerships with local organisations and contribute to law reform projectsMaintain accurate legal files and contribute to internal trainingWhat You’ll NeedEligible for a Practising Certificate in the Northern TerritoryMinimum 2 years post-admission experience in an Australian legal practiceAbility to work with diverse communities, including First Nations peopleStrong grasp of civil law matters, especially domestic and family violenceStrong communication skills and a commitment to social justiceThis is a female-identified position under the Sex Discrimination Act (Sections 30 and 34).
