About the opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Finance Operations, as a key member of our Finance division, the Claims Accountant will utilise their expertise in financial accounting to contribute to Finance Operations through the accurate and timely reporting of financial information, engage, lead and provide guidance to Authorised Agents and the Claims Accounting Officer and provide technical and SME expertise for financial accounting policies and procedures to drive best practice and ensure compliance.
This position will have a specific focus on the monitoring of WorkSafe's Authorised Agent accounting, insurance accounting (premium and claims), investment accounting, accrual accounting, sub ledger accounting and the preparation of management reporting.

Key Accountabilities:
* Responsible for maintaining the integrity of WorkSafe's general ledger and manage the end to end month end process in a timely and accurate manner.
* Review, prepare and manage balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely follow-up and resolution of any reconciling items.
* Responsible for engaging, leading and providing guidance to Authorised Agents, the Claims Accounting Officer and system providers to drive continuous improvement, ensure data integrity, clearing outstanding items and addressing ACCtion/VPCS (business systems) matters.
* Providing finance expertise, procedural and system training to WorkSafe's Authorised Agents' finance staff members and backfill of the Claims Payments Officer.
* Responsible for delivering sections of the annual and half-year statutory financial reports in compliance with accounting standards and ministerial directions.
* Support treasury activities such as monitoring bank account balances, initiating transfers, and reconciling bank accounts.

About you
You will have good technical experience in relation to financial accounting combined with strong planning, organisational and deadline management skills. In addition you will have the ability to work collaboratively within a strong team culture whilst being able to work autonomously when required.
Your strengths will also include your verbal and written communication skills along with your ability to foster positive business relationships.
Skills and experience
* Demonstrable problem solving and analytical skills.
* Demonstrable commitment to process improvement.
* Good understanding of computerised financial management systems and proficiency in the use of software applications.
* Experience with statutory financial statement audits. (Desirable)
* Experience in reporting under the Financial Management Act 1994 and the Standing Directions 2018 Under the Financial Management Act 1994. (Desirable)
* Experience with Oracle Cloud financial software. (Desirable)
* Experience in DTF's reporting system (State Resources Information Management System(SRIMS) (Desirable)
Qualifications
* Professional qualification such as a CA/CPA or equivalent.
* A relevant tertiary qualification with a focus on financial accounting.
