The Opportunity
Pacific Optics is recruiting a Head of Sales – Grocery to establish and scale our grocery channel from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to build something significant—taking a greenfield channel and turning it into a strategic revenue driver.
Reporting to the CEO as part of our senior leadership team, you'll be responsible for driving strategic direction, commercial performance, and operational excellence across the grocery channel. You'll maximize revenue, profitability, and market share through strategic account management, business development, and team leadership.
This is a P&L shaping role with genuine authority to build, influence, and win. If you're a builder with deep grocery expertise and the commercial acumen to crack major accounts, this is your next move.
What You'll Own Strategic Account Management:
* Build relationships from ground zero with key grocery retailers and banner groups, establishing performance baselines and monitoring frameworks
* Develop compelling business cases demonstrating category growth potential and margin opportunity
* Negotiate initial commercial terms including pricing, rebates, promotional funding, and listing fees
Business Plan Execution & Commercial Delivery:
* Establish grocery channel footprint achieving sales, margin, market share, and distribution targets
* Drive volume and value growth through ranging, pricing, and promotional execution and build the promotional playbook for the channel
* Coordinate across Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Customer Service
* Balance strategic account management with high‐volume prospecting
Customer Relationship Management:
* Maintain CRM hygiene with accurate account plans, trading terms, and interaction history
* Establish service standards and build customer confidence through responsive communication
Team Leadership & Capability Development:
* Lead, develop, and grow a small team, driving a high‐performance culture
* Build foundational commercial capability through coaching in negotiation, account planning, and category management and drive effective communication channels across Executive Leadership and frontline sales
Performance Analysis & Business Intelligence:
* Monitor channel performance metrics and establish reporting frameworks
* Identify trends, variances, and emerging risks requiring management attention
* Prepare strategic recommendations for the CEO and Executive Leadership Team
* Drive continuous improvement through data analysis and evidence‐based decision making
What You Bring
* Proven senior sales leadership within grocery/supermarket channel with a track record of building or scaling operations
* Deep grocery retail expertise with established relationships across major banner groups and independents
* Demonstrated success delivering significant sales growth, market expansion, and profitability in FMCG
* Strong background managing national accounts and trade spend at scale
* Experience leading multi‐country teams (Australia / New Zealand preferred)
* Advanced commercial and financial acumen including P&L accountability
* Exceptional negotiation skills and ability to engage at senior executive levels
* Builder's mindset – comfortable operating in ambiguity with the ability to create structure, processes, and momentum
* Clear and persuasive communicator capable of presenting to Boards, Executives, and customers
* Strong motivator and developer of people who builds trust and alignment across functions
