Primary objective
Applies advanced nursing/midwifery knowledge, skills, attributes and abilities within a specified area of clinical practice in therapeutic and skilled relationships with individuals, as well as with families, groups and communities.
Context statement
This role is a 12 month Transition to Remote Practice Program based in a remote NT community, providing comprehensive primary health care to communities. Educational support and training will be provided. For this role you must have; minimum of 3 years broad based nursing experience, the ability to problem solve and self-manage within the team and interact effectively with people of diverse cultures; participate in after hours on call emergency care; a sound understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes; proficiency with operating a manual vehicle; a willingness to travel by air and 4WD; the capacity to reside in a remote community. Successful applicants will need to be available to commence March 2-2026
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide comprehensive, safe, and effective evidence-based nursing/midwifery care to achieve identified individual/group health outcomes.
2. Provide leadership and care coordination across a shift and act as a resource to other members of staff within a designated portfolio (e.g. education, NSQHS Standard).
3. Accountable for the planning, provision, and communication of nursing/midwifery care, including the evaluation and required revision of practice.
4. Demonstrate NTH values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and colleagues.
5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
1. Essential
2. Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same.
3. Demonstrated well-developed knowledge, skills and experience in a relevant area of nursing/midwifery relating to this vacancy with depth in some areas and a broad range of skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to act as a clinical resource person and role model, including mentoring and preceptoring less experienced staff and students.
5. Demonstrated contribution to the development and implementation of local activities beyond direct client care e.g. clinical education, assist in management, research/quality assurance activities.
6. Demonstrated effective communication skills to achieve positive outcomes, including maintaining productive multi-disciplinary working relationships, effectively dealing with challenging behaviours, and resolving conflicts.
7. Demonstrated well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence health care provision for clients and families.

9. Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice in relevant specialty area.

Ongoing appointment is subject to possession of Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice in relevant specialty area. The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current working with children clearance notice and undergo a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is relevant to the position. This role carries specific immunisation requirements. To be eligible for appointment you will be required to meet the immunisation requirements associated with Category A healthcare workers (direct contact with blood or body substances).
