Mookai Rosie Bi-Bayan (MRBB) is a community-controlled health organisation supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from Cape York, the NPA, and the Torres Strait while they are in Cairns for medical care. Our integrated model of care places culture and wellbeing at the centre. Through our Wellbeing Program, we provide culturally safe mental health support, counselling, parenting guidance, and advocacy for men, women, and families. We focus on emotional, social, and cultural wellbeing alongside physical health, ensuring every client feels supported and respected.
About the role
The Mental Health Social Worker position delivers culturally responsive mental health and social and emotional wellbeing services to clients of Mookai Rosie Bi-Bayan (MRBB). The position involves clinical assessment, counselling, group therapy, and therapeutic support for individuals and families. It also includes providing professional guidance to MRBB staff and participating in an on-call service. Services may be eligible for Medicare rebates under Mental Health Care Plans. This position is based at our Mookai Family Health clinic.
Tertiary qualifications in Social Work and current AASW Mental Health Accreditation
Minimum 5 years' experience in working within the primary health care, preferably within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities or rural and remote primary health care or mental health care settings.
Demonstrated ability to work with people experiencing mental ill-health in a holistic and practical way, addressing social factors to support recovery and overall wellbeing.
Proven capacity to work collaboratively within a team environment, fostering a supportive and respectful approach to teamwork.
Strong commitment to person-centred care and recovery-oriented practice, ensuring services are culturally safe and responsive to individual needs
Proficiency in computer-based programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, Best Practice or MIMASO or rediCASE.
Demonstrated ability to stay up to date with current best practice, research, and advancements in mental health care and treatment techniques.
Proven experience and strong skills in crisis intervention, including the ability to respond effectively and appropriately in high-pressure situations.
Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
Current Queensland Drivers Licence.
Work hours - Monday to Friday: 8.00am to 4.00pm
