About the Role
You will provide expert legal advice on a broad range of regulatory matters, with a focus on consumer credit, deposit-taking, and prudential compliance. This role is critical in managing legal risk, supporting business objectives, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide timely and pragmatic legal advice across the bank's operations, products, and regulatory obligations
* Advise on consumer credit matters under the National Credit Code and broader retail banking regulation
* Review product collateral and assess legal incidents or breaches, including regulator engagement (ASIC/APRA)
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders and manage relationships with external legal counsel
* Contribute to a high-performing, visible legal team that partners effectively with the business
What We're Looking For
* A minimum of 5 years PQE with a strong grounding in financial services or banking law
* Demonstrated expertise in consumer credit, retail banking regulation, and prudential standards
* Strong commercial judgement, high emotional intelligence, and a collaborative, professional style
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Unrestricted practising certificate
Desirable
* Experience with ASIC/APRA regulatory engagement
* Familiarity with the Customer Owned Banking Code of Practice
* Background in a mid/top-tier law firm and/or financial institution
