We employ over 650 staff who provide support and development opportunities for people who require physical, social, and psychological supports. Nexus supports clients throughout the south, north and north-west of Tasmania. 
About Nexus Supported Living 
Our Supported Independent Living (SIL) team provides support in a variety of accommodation types, including shared living and independent living options. They also provide support in clients' own homes where required. 
As a Support Worker with our Supported Independent Living (SIL) team, you will 
- Provide encouragement, assistance and support to clients for their personal care such as bathing, toileting, dressing, eating. 
- Provide encouragement, assistance and support to allow clients to complete domestic duties such as housekeeping, cooking, cleaning, laundry and gardening and day to day decision making. 
- Provide encouragement, assistance and support to clients in their recreation and leisure activities. 
- Provide social interaction and emotional support to clients. 
- Accompany clients, when required, in a range of activities to promote maximum physical and social participation into community life. 
- Administer prescribed medication in accordance with established policies and guidelines. 
- Provide transport for clients as required. 
- Complete general domestic and maintenance duties. 
- Complete client case notes, incident reporting and uploading of documents into Nexus Inc’s client management system. 
- Other duties may be allocated from time to time. 
Our Ideal Candidate will have the following 
- Insight into disabilities and willingness to support clients to live the life they choose. 
- Understanding of active support model of support. 
- Experience with mental health, trauma, psychosocial and intellectual or physical disabilities (professionally or personally). 
- Ability to manage emergency situations in line with organisational policies and procedures. 
- Willingness to learn and a positive, open mindset. 
- Strong ability to collaborate effectively within a team or work autonomously across diverse environments, including client’s home. 
- Understanding of self-care strategies to support positive qualified and personal outcomes. 
- Ability to use specialised knowledge and personal strengths to support the skill development and independence of clients. 
- Understanding of the NDIA and its impacts on clients and families. 
- Effective communication skills, including written, verbal and non-verbal. 
- Ability to build rapport with clients from a variety of backgrounds and treat them as participating members of society whilst respecting their level of knowledge and skill. 
- Experience with the Microsoft suite of software (including Outlook, Teams and Word) and other information systems used for reporting and rostering. 
Working in the disability sector means you will also need the following 
- Current National Police Check (no more than 6 months old) 
- Current Working with Vulnerable People Card (with NDIS endorsement /employment type) 
- Current First Aid certificate (HLTAID011) and medication training (HLTHPS006) 
Note: A pre-employment physical will be required for this role (including drug and alcohol testing).
