Life at Mission Australia

When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we advocate for a fairer Australia, to meet the growing needs of people across the country. Together we're building hope and possibility for all.

The Transition to Work program helps young people aged between 15 to 24 transition to work or ongoing education. The program has a strong focus on providing support to those who have left school early, or who are having difficulty finding work after school, and helping them to develop the skills and confidence they need to move into work or ongoing education.

The Youth Employment Mentor is based in Taree or Foster and acts as the point of contact for our youth programs. In the role, you will provide a mix of 1 to 1 and group support aimed at strengthening the social & emotional wellbeing of your clients. Our Mentors are active in the community and work collaboratively with Youth Employment Specialists in the areas of education, training & employment.

Due to the geographical area the program covers, outreach work is an essential part of the role, requiring the Youth Employment Mentor to work from various locations including Taree, Forster and Wingham. A Pool car will be provided for outreach work and travel will be during work time.

Although this is not an identified position, we strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

* Promote early engagement and sustained connection of youth via outreach, drop-in and non-structured interactions.
* Ensure young people are provided with practical support to participate and feel valued and worthy of contributing to their futures.
* Plan, deliver and evaluate group work sessions and provide tailored support to clients.
* Accurately record information in management files for all clients in line with Mission Australia protocols and program.
* Proactively raise concerns that affect the safety and wellbeing of children and young people engaging with MA services.
* Actively provide continuous improvement initiatives to ensure the quality of the program evolves.

Requirements for Success:

* Tertiary qualifications in community services or a related discipline desirable
* Experience in Community Services or Youth Services, Workforce Australia Providers or case management is highly desirable
* Experience with career counselling and social & emotional wellbeing support.
* Ability to network and keep up to date with local services that can assist participants with addressing barriers to employment
* Detail oriented written skill and the ability to present information and comprehensive case notes clearly and concisely.
* A proven track record in achieving KPI's; demonstrating resilience and managing your self-awareness and personal development.
* Experience working with vulnerable people and/or young people with complex needs.
* Experience and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural systems and protocols would be advantageous.
* Resilience, self-awareness and the ability to manage your own personal development and wellness.
* Current NSW Driving Licence

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

* Rewarding work – every day you know you're making a real difference
* Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via AccessPay )
* Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave
* Extra leave including: Mission Australia Thank You Day & Work Anniversary Day off

About Us

Mission Australia is a national Christian charity motivated by a shared vision of an Australia where everyone has a safe home and can thrive.

Since 1859, we've been standing alongside people in need across Australia, offering real hope that has lasting impact.

Backed by our supporters, churches, partners, and funders, we work together for the long-term wellbeing of anyone who needs us, reflecting our values of respect, compassion, integrity, perseverance and celebration.

We collaborate with people experiencing homelessness or disadvantage to tackle the root causes of their challenges through providing access to safe, affordable homes and innovative, evidence-based support services.

Every day we deliver homelessness crisis and prevention services, provide social and affordable housing, assist struggling families and children, address mental health issues, fight substance dependencies, support people with disability and much more.

Mission Australia believes a person's circumstances shouldn't define their future and that given the right support, everyone can reach their full potential.

That's why we stand together with Australians in need, until they can stand for themselves.
